In the heart of Pahala, Ka'u, on Hawai'i Island, stands Uhane Pohaku Na Moku O Hawai'i, Inc. Established in 2009, our 501(c)(3) nonprofit established Ke Ola Pu'uhonua a living cultural refuge, preserving native Hawaiian traditions with Humility, Reverence, Discipline, and ALOHA. We gift these practices to youths, families, and the community, fostering a deep connection across generations.

Amidst a fragmented world, we serve as a beacon of unity and cultural preservation. Our volunteers, the vibrant heartbeat of our mission, infuse ALOHA into our efforts. They dedicate time, skills, and passion to bring the concept of Pu'uhonua, a refuge, to life. Through their selflessness, we cultivate a nurturing environment, offering Mauka to Makai opportunities for learning and healing.

United by tradition, our volunteers ignite change, safeguard heritage, and catalyze a brighter future. With them, our devoted community at Uhane Pohaku Na Moku O Hawai'i propels us forward, ensuring the flame of native Hawaiian culture burns ever brighter, guiding the path to unity and understanding. Join us on this journey as we celebrate the significance of volunteers, embodying the essence of ALOHA for the Spirit.
Meet our Volunteers

Allow us to warmly introduce the newest addition to our Ke Ola Pu'uhonua family, Don Krock. Hailing from the vibrant city of Cleveland, Ohio, Don's journey to our refuge has been one deeply rooted in his passion for the natural world. From a young age, Don's fascination with nurturing plant life led him to embark on a remarkable path.

With a determined spirit, Don pursued his studies at The Ohio State University, immersing himself in the realm of Floriculture and Greenhouse Management. Armed with knowledge and a heart full of dedication, he stepped into the role of caretaker for the botanical wonders at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. For an astounding three decades, Don meticulously oversaw the horticulture team and a sprawling 320 acres of gardens and pristine natural landscapes.

In 2015, a new chapter began as Don and his beloved wife made the life-altering decision to call the enchanting Big Island home. Drawn by the serene tranquility of Ka'u, they found solace and a sense of belonging in this remarkable haven. As fate would have it, Don's journey has now led him to our Living Cultural Refuge, Ke Ola Pu'uhonua.

Don Krock, with his wealth of experience and an unwavering commitment to the beauty of nature, has graciously chosen to share his expertise and passion with us. As we embrace Don into our community, we eagerly anticipate the wisdom and insights he will undoubtedly bring to our mission of preserving and celebrating our cultural heritage.
Please join us in extending a heartfelt aloha and warm welcome to Don Krock
